Stage IV of Five

Become

Discover who you are beneath old patterns.

This stage is less about fixing yourself and more about discovering yourself.

What do you value? What brings you joy? What boundaries feel true? What kind of life feels aligned with who you are, not who you've been expected to be?

These questions, and more, begin to outline the ways in which you form your identity.

This is not about fixing yourself. It is about remembering who you have always been.

What is happening

After years of living your life in adaptation or survival, you're beginning to organize and arrange your life around authenticity. Your decisions become rooted in a sense of self trust.

How we work together

Through therapy, a community of your choosing, and other offerings like workshops and retreats, we'll create space for you to cultivate a life that feels deeply your own.

What is left when the adapting stops

People often expect to find a stranger. Usually it is more like recognition. Preferences you had quietly overruled. A sense of humour that had been sanded down for company. Opinions you held but had learned not to lead with.

This stage tends to be less about discovery and more about permission. Not becoming someone new, but no longer overriding what was already there.

The questions that do the work

  • What do you actually want, before you consider what is reasonable to want?
  • Which of your standards are yours, and which were inherited without examination?
  • Where do you say yes and feel a small drop afterward?
  • What would you do differently if nobody were going to be disappointed?
  • What has stayed true across every version of yourself you have performed?

The part people are not warned about

Becoming more yourself changes your relationships, and not always comfortably. Some people are relieved. Some were attached to the accommodating version and will say so, sometimes indirectly. A few relationships turn out to have been held together by your willingness to disappear a little.

That is worth naming ahead of time. It is not a sign of going wrong. It is usually a sign the work is real, and it is why this stage is easier with support than alone.
